Decision

I write this feeling as if I’ve been run over by a freight train.  About an hour or so ago I listened to the unanimous decision of the East Vincent Zoning Board denying the petition I and others filed claiming that the Pennhurst Asylum violated the use rights of a Low Density Residential zone.
The ZB determined that a recreational building, which is how the Pennhurst Administration building is now termed, can be used for entertainment and amusement.  That use is non-restricted relative to any form of amusement, in essence stating that a Halloween event is but one type of permitted use by right.
One can now make the argument that any structure in any of the three residential zones anywhere in the Township may be used, by right, for purposes similar to the Pennhurst Asylum.  Coming soon to a neighborhood next to you.
I’ll need to read the 14-page decision a few times before commenting in detail.  At this time, what seems to be vital is to let you, the CCOEV members, be aware of this.  That with this incredible determination, and the inevitable approval of the Jones Motor zoning amendment petition, East Vincent is beginning to rot internally as special interests slowly and surely absorb the power that was once vested in her residents.
I am one voice.  The combined voices of our organization will be louder.  The time has come for you to decide if actions like these are to become the norm of if we will rise as one and control our future.  There may be an appeal and if so, the time will come for contributions from you to a legal defense fund.  And in the coming Supervisor election, it will be time for you to examine the candidates and their positions and vigorously support someone who will protect you.  If ever the time was now, it is now.
